Karina Smirnoff Career

Smirnoff’s budding dance career was put on hold at the age of 14 when her family emigrated to the United States. After settling in New York City, Smirnoff put dancing on the backburner to concentrate on academics. She attended Christopher Columbus High School and the Bronx High School of Science. After graduating from high school, Smirnoff enrolled at Fordham University where she double-majored in economics and information systems programming and planned to attend law school.

However, while still studying at Fordham, Smirnoff also resumed dance lessons. She studied rumba, jive, samba and waltz with various renowned dance instructors in New York City. After rekindling her childhood passion, Smirnoff decided to abandon her plans to become a lawyer and pursue a professional dance career.

Early in Smirnoff’s dancing career, Roman Nabatov and she competed as an amateur couple for USA. They ended their dance partnership in January 1997. Smirnoff soon after started dancing with Paul Killick in October 1998 as a professional couple for England; this partnership ended in July 1999. Immediately, Louis van Amstel and Karina Smirnoff, in July 1999, entered a professional dance partnership, representing the U.S.A; the partnership ended in December 2000.

From January 2001 to September 2005, Karina Smirnoff was in a dance partnership with Slavik Kryklyvyy and they represented the U.S.A; this partnership thus far is her most successful one. Kryklyvyy and Smirnoff earned many top titles and high ratings together. Smirnoff is currently dancing with Dmitri Timokhin for Russia as of October 2005. They won first place at the 2006 Grand-Prix Dynamo in Moscow, Russia. Smirnoff was the project manager/director of a dancing event entitled “Day & Night”, held on November 18, 2006 at the Hollywood & Highlands Grand Ballroom.

In September 2006, Karina and Mario Lopez entered ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. They became runner-up behind Cheryl Burke and Emmitt Smith. In March 2007, she danced with Billy Ray Cyrus and ended in the fifth place. In 2007, she paired with Floyd Mayweather Jr. for entering Dancing with the Stars. But the duo could not stay long in the show.

In December 2010, she released her first fitness DVD, Shape up with Karina Smirnoff. The dance inspired DVD focuses on toning, strengthening & muscle confusion; all with the goal of achieving a dancer’s body. In January 2011, Smirnoff is launching the Karina Collection of boots with Bearpaw Shoes that are warm and functional. She has also joined forces with Girlactik Beauty to partner on a Karina brand of cosmetics including, Karina’s Hurry Up & Get Ready look – a quick solution to look party perfect in minutes.

She is scheduled to be featured in a hot pictorial in the May 2011 American issue of Playboy magazine. Karina Smirnoff Playboy photos will hit the May 2011 issue, confirms Playboy to news. Karina Smirnoff Playboy pictures did not get the Dancing with the Stars professional dancer in trouble with ABC, as incorrect reports initially claimed. The pics were taken by Playboy on April 6 confirms Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. Hefner tells news today that Smirnoff’s Playboy spread will be one of the publication’s best this year. “It’s a beautiful shoot and I’m very proud of it” said Hef.
